Cover Concept

I was looking through my old artwork one day and I stumbled across this piece. The oddest thing is, I have no memory of actually drawing it. I contacted the inker, Anthony Cacioppo, to see what he recalled. He told me that he asked me to draw it for a contest of some kind.

So, I headed over to Fandata.com and the kind folks at the Fandom Directory offered to help me out. Apparently, this was submitted as part of a cover art contest in the long, lost year of 1999.

Sadly, it didn't win, but I still think it's kind of cool.

And I have no idea why I used those particular images. I'm not sure what was my idea and what were Anthony's suggestions, but we've got a kung-fu guy (Shang Chi?), Hellboy, a yin yang symbol, and a masked wrestler (Mexican luchador Villano...or, at least, one of the Villanos...there are 5 of them that I know of).
